Before: Bedroom before home staging.

Buyers have a hard time visualizing a space and will often pass over a dark, vacant property because they don’t know if their furniture will fit. This room can easily fit a queen bed, nightstands and a dresser. We just needed to show buyers that.

Some buyers can be intimidated by a dark feature wall, especially if the wall makes the whole space feel dark. An easy way to balance the dark, is add light furniture, artwork and accessories. Glass is another way to brighten a space as they will reflect light, either from a natural source like the sun or a man made source like lamps.

Kitchen Reno Tips

Calgary Kitchen After Staging

After: The countertops on the island are cleared off, leaving a few key lifestyle elements to help the buyer imagine living here.

The kitchen is the heart of the home and a major factor in whether a house sells. Renovation costs can be expensive. As a home stager, I recommend updates that can be done by the homeowner on a budget.

Islands & Breakfast Bars: Extra counter space, storage or a makeshift office? Think versatility. For a quick fix, consider portable options – butcher block, stainless steel, antique tables/sideboards. Be creative. Just keep the buyer in mind.

Pendants: Islands need proper lighting. Add a pop of colour or go glamorous. If your kitchen is dated, modernizing the pendant will add new life.

Cabinets: Paint dated oak cabinets for a fresh new look. Update the hardware with brushed or satin chrome. A little elbow grease will bring big returns.

Backsplash: Go from unforgettable to wow. White subway tiles look clean and versatile. Glass/mosaic tiles are also popular. Stay neutral in colour and accessorize with the blend of texture and size.

It’s that time of year when real estate is hot as the weather gets cooler. To warm up your home for the chilly fall temperatures, consider updating your artwork and accessories to deeper hues. When shopping for new accent pillows and area rugs, watch out for patterns, detail and rich colours. Let autumn’s leaf colors inspire your colors.
Rich reds, burnt oranges, golden yellows and rich plums coordinate wonderfully with light neutral walls. Your look can be contemporary, traditional, transitional or eclectic depending which shades and patterns you choose. Are you a “pinner”? Pintrest has tons of beautiful and creative fall decor ideas.
