Staging A Bedroom

Airdrie Bedroom Before Staging

Before: It’s difficult for potential buyers to
envision a bedroom with no furniture.

If you’ve read my previous posts on staging bedrooms, I’ve said not to use red since it’s too energetic of a colour and bedrooms are meant for relaxing. Well rules are meant to be broken.

Why am I breaking my rule? What do 90% of Canadian boys love? Hockey. So wouldn’t it be a good idea to stage a boy’s room in a hockey theme?

After: This bedroom is now the perfect space for the next NHL star.

The challenge is finding hockey themed artwork and accessories that are neutral enough to please everyone. Although blue is a perfect colour for a bedroom, how many people love the Leafs? And… not everyone in Calgary (or Airdrie) loves the Flames – which left Team Canada as the best solution (although the colours are red).

Staging A Living Room

Before: It’s difficult for potential buyers to envision a living room with no furniture.

A great way to make a small, dark room feel lighter and more spacious is to use a light area rug and light furniture. Red is a great colour to draw your eye to a specific feature you want highlighted. Some examples of focal points you may want to highlight in a living room are architectural features like a fireplace or large windows.

After: The red chairs, accessories and artwork draw your eyes to the features in this living room: the fireplace and the large backyard window.

Staging An Office Area

Calgary Office Area Before Staging

Before: Calgary basement corner before staging as an office area.

Potential buyers need an invitation to feel welcomed into a basement, at the end of a hallway or top of a staircase. Some great cues that the space at the end of the “tunnel” is inviting: greenery, artwork, a reading chair or a desk.

Staging A Bathroom

Calgary Bedroom Before Staging

Before: Bathroom before staging.

Staging doesn’t always mean adding accessories, sometimes it means removing or pre-packing items not required for your room’s function. Especially in bathrooms remember to do a thourough clean as if you were expecting guests. Your prospective buyers need to invision themselves living here and you need to make your home as welcoming for them as possible.

After: By removing the unused items, this bathroom feels larger.
