The Psychology of Staging With Time

Time Concept

The goal with home staging is to keep prospective buyers
interested as quickly and as long as possible.

Daylight savings time is fast approaching, we lose an hour this Sunday. This time change has got me thinking, a lot of my clients ask why we don’t stage with clocks so I thought I’d share some staging psychology…

According to Canadian Staging Professionals Research, the average showing lasts 3-6 minutes. Not very long considering it probably took 15+ minutes in travel time. So how can a seller take advantage of this knowledge?

Consider tucking away all alarm and display clocks for showings. Have you ever seen a clock at a Vegas casino? They don’t display them to keep gamblers there as long as possible. Just like a casino, the goal with home staging is to keep prospective buyers interested as quickly and as long as possible. The more they linger, the more likely will send in an offer. Take every opportunity to not remind them about how much time has passed and think about other appointments (like the next showing)…
