Before: Kitchen before staging. Personally, I don’t like the word clutter as it has a negative feeling associated with it and most people have personal connections to their possessions. However, most home buyers disagree with this statement and #1 on their wish list is a de-cluttered home. Since “the buyer is always right” here’s some easy steps to editing your home for sale.

After: By opening the blinds, the kitchen is brighter and you can view the beautifully landscaped yard. Empty your closets and storage space and sort each item into 5 categories: keep, donate, trash, repair and sell. Keep in mind the last time you’ve worn or used each item, anything not touched in over a year probably will not be worn or used again.
Group everything you’ve decided to keep back into your closet/storage space by item and colour this adds harmony to your closet. Anything loose should be stored in baskets/boxes.
Contact a local charity to donate the items you no longer wish to keep that are still in good condition and throw out anything that isn’t. Set aside items you wish to repair and sell, give yourself an attainable goal to fix or sell everything in this category. If you haven’t repaired or sold these items by your deadline re-asses if it is worth saving. This will help reduce stress in your life and help home buyers fall in love with your space (not your stuff).
