| Renovate and Stay: On the positive side, renovating may be a good investment depending on your situation. Plus, you can make your rooms look the way you want. You avoid the hassle and expense of moving and there’s little impact on your routines. On the other hand, renovations take time and come with mess, inconvenience and potential hidden costs. Even after renovation, you may not get what you really wanted because some things simply cannot be changed (i.e. lot size, property size, bylaw/zoning restrictions). Sell and Move: Selling can be easier in ways. The benefits include using your equity to upgrade to a newer home or better neighbourhood. And you can find a better fit for your current situation or lifestyle needs. On the down side, you may have an emotional attachment to your home that’s hard to let go. And packing up and preparing a home for sale is not all fun. If you decide to sell, it’s important to prepare your property for potential buyers in ways that get the most return on investment:
