5 Smart Kitchen Makeovers for Home Staging

November 21, 2012 (posted by Jennifer Campbell, Home Staging Calgary)

Kitchens matter. When you’re staging your house for sale, your kitchen will either draw the buyer in, or, it will be a red flag signalling a lot of hassle and extra expense to renovate. As a seller, you can do the work and make a small investment on this home improvement to get big returns. Here are my staging ideas for affordable kitchen makeovers.

  1. Paint Cabinets:
If you have older wood cabinets, you’ll be amazed at what a coat of white paint will do to give the kitchen an updated feel. Choose a clean white like Pointing (Farrow and Ball), White Whisper (CIL) or Ultra Pure White (Behr). Get advice from the paint department to ensure that you get a smooth and durable finish.
  2.

  3. Update Hardware:
Whether you end up painting your cabinets or just giving them a good scrub, replace dated knobs and handles with simple brushed or satin chrome. Depending on what shape the existing ones are in, a thorough clean and coat of silver spray paint might do the job.
  4.

  5. Give Countertops a Facelift:

People like the look of a granite counter but usually not the cost to purchase and install it. If you have unsightly countertops, you can replace them with an affordable granite-look laminate. Also consider having them sprayed to look like granite. In Calgary, there are businesses that do this. It looks great and there are a number of colours to choose from. This update can make a huge difference in itself.

  6.

  7. Change Faucet:

Highlight your sink area with a new faucet. It will add sparkle and quickly update an older kitchen. Pay a bit extra for some wow factor and ease of use rather than installing a basic looking bargain.

  8.

  9. Accessorize:

Be selective and keep counters uncluttered. Glass bottled water, a bowl of fruit, stainless steel salt and pepper shakers, new towels, and natural elements like wood cutting boards and fresh flowers help to keep your kitchen from feeling too sterile. You want to create an updated, clean, spacious feel that is also welcoming.
