12 Days of Home Staging Christmas – Day 11

December 11, 2013 (posted by Jennifer Campbell, Home Staging Calgary)
On the eleventh day of Christmas, my home stager placed for me…

Eleven pieces of fruit in a bowl.

After: This dining space is perfect for enjoying family meals or entertaining guests.

Whether real fruit or fake, home staging with fruit in a bowl can add a bit of colour and life to your staged room. I get my faux fruit from Michaels (remember your 50% off coupon or download the mobile app to save too). The important tip is to make it feel natural, like it belongs in the space that’s used by real people. Otherwise it could stand out to potential buyers in a negative, “they’re trying too hard”, kind of way.

In this Charleswood dining room I staged, I used faux pears. But it could just as easily have been fresh oranges, lemons, limes or apples in a kitchen. Used properly, home staging with fruit can help a potential buyer imagine being in that space. How about an orange after your meal while you chat with friends and family in this happy space?

12 Days of Home Staging Christmas – Day 10

On the tenth day of Christmas, my home stager placed for me…

Ten pieces of art.

After: This cozy sunroom is the perfect for entertaining or relaxing.

Using art in home staging is an intentional act. Depersonalizing a home for staging doesn’t mean taking away all of the art to leave walls completely bare. And it doesn’t mean hanging up just anything to fill a space. It means that art should be used strategically to appeal to potential buyers.

In this Huntington home I staged in Calgary, I placed the art purchased from ArtSense between two windows to direct the potential buyers’ eyes to the feature of natural light. Art in home staging can help to make an older property feel updated. I also use art to make a property feel like a home, which is especially important when staging a vacant house or condo.

If done strategically, using art in home staging can be a cost effective way to create maximum impact.

12 Days of Home Staging Christmas – Day 9

On the ninth day of Christmas, my home stager placed for me…

Nine books for an office.

After: This office space feels organized and spacious – a great place to work.

Staging an office is important because, for some potential buyers, a designated office space is a must have. I staged this bedroom as an office simply by placing books from Indigo and decorative items in the bookcases and adding a desk. It makes it easy for the potential buyer to imagine herself working in that space.

At the same time, it’s easy enough for the potential buyer to imagine easily turning it back into a bedroom if a separate office is not required. Whether it’s in a separate room or a shared space, staging an office helps a property sell.

12 Days of Home Staging Christmas – Day 8

December 08, 2013 (posted by Jennifer Campbell, Home Staging Calgary)
On the eighth day of Christmas, my home stager placed for me…

Eight beautiful plants.

After: This formal living room is a great place to entertain.

Including beautiful plants when staging a home is helpful in a few ways. Plants can help draw the eye to a feature area. They help to create a happy and healthy “lived in” feeling in a home. And they can help to purify the air of toxins (peace lily, palm, spider plants, dracaenas and gerber daisies). Not a green thumb? There are some lovely silk options at the Silk Plant Warehouse. Think about placing two large, one medium and five small healthy plants throughout your home.
